Affiliate Disclosure
A plain-language explanation of how Garden Skillz makes money, and why it never changes what I recommend.
Last updated: September 2026The Short Version
- Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, I may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you.
- This never changes what I recommend. I only link to products I would genuinely suggest to a friend.
- Garden Skillz also displays ads through the Mediavine ad network, which is separate from affiliate links and works the same way most publishers fund free content.
- No sponsored posts disguised as editorial content. What you read is what I actually think — always.
How Affiliate Links Work
When I recommend a product on Garden Skillz — a pair of pruners, a specific soil mix, a piece of furniture — some of those links are affiliate links. That means if you click through and make a purchase, the retailer pays me a small commission. This is standard practice across the web and is how most independent publications, including this one, keep content free to read.
Garden Skillz may participate in affiliate programs including, but not limited to, the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.
What This Doesn't Change
An affiliate commission never determines whether I recommend a product, or how I write about it. Before anything gets linked on this site:
- I look at real product reviews and, where possible, use or research the product myself.
- I choose what to recommend before I check whether it has an affiliate program — not the other way around.
- If a product stops being good, or I find something better, I update the article. The link doesn't stay just because it earns money.
If I wouldn't suggest something to a friend fixing up their own home, it doesn't appear on Garden Skillz.
Display Advertising
Separately from affiliate links, Garden Skillz displays advertising through the Mediavine ad network. These are standard banner and in-content ads shown to readers, and Mediavine or its advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve relevant ads. This income supports the research, testing, and writing time that goes into every guide on this site, and — like affiliate links — has no influence over what gets written or recommended.
No Sponsored Content
Garden Skillz does not publish sponsored posts disguised as regular articles. If a piece of content is ever paid for or provided by a brand, it will be clearly and conspicuously labeled as such at the top of the page — not buried in fine print. As of this writing, no articles on this site fall into that category.
Questions
If you have questions about how a specific article was written, why a product is recommended, or anything else about how this site is run, I read every message that comes through the Contact page.
